Staircase Drawing for Residential Building (Plan + Section + RCC Design)

Residential Staircase Design with Plan and Section Details:-

Residential stair plan

Staircase design is a very important part of architectural and engineering design. Designing a staircase in a residential building is crucial for both functionality and safety. A well-planned staircase not only connects floors but also adds to the architectural appeal. In this post, we explore a detailed staircase layout with a central lift shaft, including plan, section, and reinforcement details.

🔷 Staircase Plan Overview

This staircase is specially designed for residential building. The staircase plan shown features a dog-legged type layout with a centrally placed lift shaft (5'0" x 5'0"). The staircase wraps around the lift, making efficient use of space. The stairs move upward in the clockwise direction. A total of 22 risers are used to cover the floor height of 12'0".
  • Lift Size:- 5'0" x 5'0"
  • Stair Width:- 3'6"
  • Tread:- 10"
  • Riser:- 6.54"
  • Landing Width:- 3'6"
The staircase starts from the ground floor (marked as "DN") and leads upward (marked as "UP") on the opposite side.

🔷 Staircase Sectional Details (Section A-A')

Staircase section detail has been given properly in this staircase. The sectional drawing provides an in-depth understanding of the vertical and structural configuration of the staircase.
Step-by-Step Stair Section Drawing

📏Dimensions:-

  • Total Floor Height: 12'0"
  • Riser Height: 6.54"
  • Number of Risers: 22
  • Tread Size: 10"
  • Landing Heights:
  • First Landing: +3'10"
  • Mid Landing: +8'9"
  • Final Slab Level: +12'0"

The section also shows the division of the risers as:-

  • First flight:- 7 risers
  • Mid-landing:- Flat
  • Second flight:- 8 risers
  • Final flight:- 7 risers

🔷 Reinforcement Details

It has been given proper reinforcement keeping the structure stability in mind. To ensure durability and structural strength, reinforcement bars are placed as per standard stair construction guidelines:-

  • Main Steel Bar: 10mm dia @ 6” c/c
  • Distribution Steel Bar: 10mm dia @ 6” c/c
These bars run both longitudinally and transversely to manage the load effectively.

🔷 Key Construction Notes

  • Concrete Mix:- Use M20 grade or higher for residential stairs.
  • Cover to Reinforcement:- Minimum 15mm for internal stairs.
  • Formwork:- Ensure proper shuttering with accurate slope and alignment before concreting.

✅ Advantages of This Staircase Design

  • Efficient Space Use:- The lift is centrally aligned with the staircase to minimize wasted space.
  • Safe Design:- Adequate landing space improves safety and comfort.
  • Standard Riser-Tread Ratio:- Ensures easy and comfortable movement.
  • Reinforcement Clearly Specified:- For better structural reliability.
